Saundra Mitchell and her Contest of Awesome!!!

I have a guest blogger today! Welcome Saundra Mitchell! Her amazing historical supernatural The Springsweet came out yesterday. (It's the sequel to The Vespertine from 2011.:D)

So here she is to share a bit about The Springsweet and a contest!

Ciao!

"Do you know what I've missed since coming here? Books. I do miss reading novels, don't you?"

-Zora, The Springsweet

Pretty much every writer started out as a reader; now that we're writers, we can't help but write about people who love books. Sometimes IN the books. It's meta upon meta, but it makes perfect sense to us.

To celebrate books, Saundra Mitchell's blog tour is all about sharing two great things that go great together: books + free.

Today, you can enter to win a copy of Aprilynne's WINGS, and a signed set of Saundra's THE VESPERTINE and THE SPRINGSWEET. All you have to do is comment in this entry, and leave an e-mail address where we can contact you. (US & Canadian residents only, please.)

And tell us about your favorite book, too. Growing a TBR pile is the best gardening there is!

THE SPRINGSWEET
A Companion to The Vespertine
by Saundra Mitchell
Hardcover & E-book

From Harcourt

“A lovely historical romance takes readers back to the 1890 Oklahoma territory. (T)he author conjures a convincing picture of life on the Oklahoma prairie, painting an absorbing portrait of the landscape and of the people there. A high-quality, absorbing drama.”

Kirkus Reviews, 02/01/12

It’s a long way from Baltimore to Oklahoma Territory. But Zora Stewart will go any distance to put the tragic events of her sixteenth summer behind her. So this city girl heads to the tiny frontier town of West Glory to help her young widowed aunt keep her homestead going.

When another Baltimorean shows up in West Glory, Zora couldn’t be more surprised. Theo de la Croix made the long trip out west hoping to court Zora, whom he has long admired from afar.

But Zora has developed an attraction to a rather less respectable fellow: Emerson Birch, a rough-mannered young “sooner” whose fertile land is coveted.

As Zora begins to suspect that there may be more than luck behind Emerson’s good land, she discovers an extraordinary, astonishing power of her own: the ability to sense water under the parched earth. When her aunt hires her out as a “springsweet” to advise other settlers where to dig their wells, Zora feels the burden of holding the key to something so essential to survival in this unforgiving land.

Even more, she finds herself longing for love the way the prairie thirsts for water. Maybe, in the wildness of the territories, Zora can finally move beyond simply surviving and start living.

THE SPRINGSWEET

LOVE LOVE LOVE The Wings series, so excited! TeamTam! ;)

Probably my most favorite books of all time is the Dragonlance series, but it's hard to pick favorites I have so many. I've always loved the classics too, like Jane Austen.

Awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed The Vespertine, especially because of the fact that it was written with the setting in Baltimore, which is where i was born and raised and still live!!!
Some of my favorite YA books are Obsidian (Jennifer Armentrout), Abandon (Meg Cabot), The Hunger Games series (Suzanne Collins), Graceling and Fire (Kristin Cashore), Article 5 (Kristen Simmons), Grave Mercy (Robin LaFevers), Die For Me (Amy Plum), and of course, The Vespertine(Saundra!)and the Wings series (Aprilynne!). But those are just a few. I actually don't have that much of a TBR pile, because I'm not very big on waiting months after the book comes out. I usually just borrow them from my local library :D
Thanks for the contest!!!

Ooh! These books have been in my TBR pile for a while. As a matter of fact, idk why I haven't gotten around to the Vespertine yet. (Could possibly be that my hubs put the breaks so my book buying sprees and my local library doesn't have it.) boo. Would love to win these. Read Wings tho. Team Tam!
I have tons of favorite books that I love but the books that I have read more than 3x each are the Harry Potter books and the Anne of Green Gables series. Love them!!!
Recent books I loved were Legend and anything Cassandra Clare.

Picking a favorite book is a near impossible task. I have enjoyed the Beautiful Creatures series, and the Linger series, and The wings series. Oh and Hourglass door. Yeah

Of course, I have many favorites, but one is Jane Eyre. I feel that Jane Eyre is a book where both of the main characters have to change and see the world differently, before they can learn to accept themselves. I think that is a beautiful message of how life really is.

One of my favorite series that I'd recommend is the House of Night series, which lastest book was also called Destined xD. Growing up one of my favorite books was The Tale of Desperanx. (I think that's how you spell it). Email: Blairediane@gmail.com

This is very hard for me. I'm a bit older than the average YA reader. As a teacher is warms my heart to see young students so passionate about their favorite books in this digital world. I must also say that when I was a teen (1990s) the YA world was very small compared to the selection of books you have now so I find myself reading a lot of YA books.
One of my fav books growing up was Saturday The Twelfth of October by Norma Fox Mazer. They are many more by her that I love but this wasThe first book I read by her. I also love Across the Nightingale Floor- The Tales of the Otori series book 1 by Lian Hearn This series I read in college. I also love The Bride by Julie Garwood This is not a YA book but since I read it at age 13 I have to include it. I have this book in hardback, paperback and Nook format. I also enjoyed reading the Harry Potter series, The Twilight Series, The Hunger Games Series and The Blue Bloods Series.

Obviously, I love Aprilynne's books! I'm also a big Shannon Hale and Stephenie Meyer fan. Anything by them.

An older book that I love is "A Town Like Alice" by Nevil Shute. Love it. I can read it over and over again.

I really dig seeing all the books the other fans are putting in the comments. They make for great book recommendations!

I know this is gonna sound a bit weird but my favorite book of all time would have to be magice tree house lions at lunch time, due to the fact that it was the frost book that I could read on my own and it was an adventure one that set the idea for me that books are fun an not just something to read as your told by someone. I'm 21 now and I still own the book that I got when I was 8. I would love to win the contest but if I don't then that's fine too, I would just like to thank all the writers out there for coming up with new stories for me to read. Kayla,

My email address is shorty6191@gmail.com hope to here soon who the winner is.

I'm obsessed with the Wings series. I'm so upset that my friend will get Destined before me [she's getting it on her nook or something and i'm getting it as a real book in my hands that i can read (which is always preferred!) because I have a signed bookplate :) ] She's going to automatically have it on her Nook and I have to wait an extra day T.T

I've always loved the Harry Potter series!
