But I'm in the midst of writing my first book after YEARS of wanting to but, and I came to your blog looking for some inspiration. Something to encourage me, to help me feel better about the long road ahead of me. And I found this post. Thank you so much, you have no idea how much I needed to read this today.
:)

And I just finished reading Spells last night :):):) LOVED IT SO MUCH. Your faery stories are my favorite ones, I love how different they are and that they aren't 'dark' like so many are these days.

So, now my crazy long comment is done, just wanted to tell you those things. Thank you so much, you are one of my favorite authors ever :)Crystal Cookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06665844725894074136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27889919.post-38235429225966815802008-10-17T19:00:00.000-06:002008-10-17T19:00:00.000-06:00Thank you so much for being so open with your proc...Thank you so much for being so open with your process. One of the things I love about Stephenie Meyer is how generous she is on her website by sharing deleted scenes, first drafts, etc. It makes the rest of us feel human. I know they say all first drafts are crap (actually, the quote uses a different word), and it's so encouraging to hear writers share all they had to go through from the beginning to the finished product. As it relates to writing, I think what you said is spot on. There is the basic recipe, but each person adds or deletes their own preferences. I outline everything before I ever even start on a book. Within that outline are often very detailed scenes. In fact, very frequently I know exactly how a scene plays out in my head before a word is ever put on paper. There are the exceptions though. Sometimes a line or phrase just comes to me and I have to go write it down. I guess, as writers, we all have to do what works best for us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27889919.post-41880869791164923692008-10-07T12:27:00.000-06:002008-10-07T12:27:00.000-06:00I totally like the comparison. Honestly, I don't think I'd be able to wipe that smile off of my face either.

As far as my writing recipe, well, up until last April I didn't even know I could cook/write. I share the 'out of body' experience of Stephenie, in that, my two novels literally burst out of me and there was NO WAY I could've stopped writing till they were done...no way. I think I'd rather have held my breath or something. Writing those books was better than air.

I also agree with you 100% about writing things YOU find interesting...have a passion about. I never thought about it like that. It does make for far more interesting writing, that's for sure.K. M. I enjoyed your post and I think it really resonates. When I first started writing I read everything I could about how to be a writer--but what helped me the most was WRITING--sometimes well and sometimes not. It's really all about finding your own voice and being true to it. :)ChicChickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15160028643399311836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27889919.post-43527475249585872342008-10-06T21:49:00.000-06:002008-10-06T21:49:00.000-06:00Whoa!
